Mr. Jonas Saulis Jankus
June 24, 1937 - March 30, 2018
Mr. Jonas Saulius Jankus, age 80, of Grovetown entered into rest on Friday, March 30, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side. Jonas was born in Kaunas, Lithuania; he was the third of four children of Jurgis and Kotryna Jankus. His brothers, Virgil and Eugene, have already passed away. His youngest brother, Almis, lives in Washington state.
Shortly after World War II, his family decided to move to America. They settled in Rochester, NY. Jonas attended Benjamin Franklin High School in Rochester, NY. After high school; he enlisted in the US Army, Danced with the New York Civic Ballet Co. and the Philadelphia Civic Ballet Co.
Jonas worked at Valley Forge Army Hospital where he then met Dorothy Syester and they married on April 4, 1959.? He became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States and was stationed at Fort Gordon where he worked as an LPN at the Army hospital.
After he retired from the Army and went to Augusta Tech and studied Drafting, working for Columbia County as a draftsman.
Jonas started helping others with small house painting jobs, which eventually led to becoming a new job. He and Dorothy were owners of their own paint contracting company, J & D Associates.
Jonas was an honest, reverent, and loyal man. He was a devout Roman Catholic, and was a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
A simple man, he believed strongly in hard work and dedication to any commitment. No job or position was “little.” Everything a person does is important and he or she must do the job, no matter what it is, to the absolute best of his or her ability.
In his free time he loved puzzles, working around the house, grocery shopping, cooking, and cutting grass. After he retired from painting, he enjoyed sitting on the porch to watch the birds and the world pass by.
In addition to his loving wife Dorothy, Jonas has his children, Raymond (diagnosed with Leukemia and passed at 4 yrs old in 1963); Robert, Rena, Christopher; grandchildren, Savannah, Stephen, Gabriel, Michael, Anthony and great-grandchildren, Dustin and Anslee.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. in the Day Chapel of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 4291 Columbia Road, Grovetown, GA 30813, all are welcome to attend.
