Joseph Hardy Mitchell

Joseph Hardy Mitchell of Sylacauga, Alabama died Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Augusta VA Hospital in Augusta, Georgia following a severe stroke.
Joe was born in Sylacauga, Alabama and attended Sylacauga High School and Alexander City State Junior College. He is the son of the late Barbara (Lynn) Young Mitchell and E. Paul Mitchell of Sylacauga, Alabama. Joe is survived by his brothers Michael (Dedria), Reid (Patti), Sam (Michelle) and Gary (Connie) Mitchell; and sister’s Paula (Mark) Midyette and Babs (Rod) Giddens. Many nieces and nephews loved Uncle Joe as well as friends and relatives because of his gentleness, kindness, humility and gratefulness for the simple things in life.
Joe was a gifted writer and his text messages were always entertaining. His memory was incredible. He had a love for dogs, crossword puzzles, reading, Auburn football, the outdoors and his family. He served in the US Navy from 1981-1988 as a boiler technician. He had several positions as a boiler tech including Nashville Thermal and UAB. He also worked with his brother at Mitchell’s Marine near Alexander City, Alabama. A memorial service will be held to commemorate Joe’s life on Sunday, December 23rd, 2 pm at the Hillabee Baptist Church in Alexander City, Alabama.
