Rev. Thomas F. John
October 10, 1958 - January 31, 2019
Reverend Thomas F. John of Martinez, GA, joined his heavenly father on January 31, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Tommy spent his life in devoted service to God and family, and his quiet strength, kindness, generosity, and humbleness were the bedrock of his relationships.
Tommy was born to the late William Thomas John and Fern Ellen Spain John on October 10, 1958 in Stuttgart, Germany. He graduated from Nazarene Bible College in 1993 and Evans High School in 1976.
Tommy was married to Tammy, the love of his life for 34 years. Together, they loved Christmas, Christian music and their family. They instilled a love of God, evangelism and music in their son, Marty, and a strong sense of self-worth in their daughter, Mandy. They helped many people in their community, started a church and doted on their grandchildren, Maggie and Joel.
Tommy loved fiercely and deeply, and his children and grandchildren will carry the confidence that unconditional love bestows through the rest of their lives. Tommy taught his children to go after what they wanted in life and to rely on God to help them get it. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and considered them a special blessing in his life.
His deep sense of morality was matched by his acceptance of people's foibles and a belief in their ability to be good in any circumstance.
Tommy is joyfully remembered by Tammy, his wife, his children Marty and Mandy, daughter-in-law Amy Smith John, grandchildren Maggie and Joel, siblings Cathy John Biggerstaff (Larry), Peggy John Helmly (William) and Jimmy John (Karen), mother-in-law Ellen Roland, brother-in-law Eric Kent (Terry), sister-in-law Evelyn Kent (Lou), and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at The First Baptist Church of Evans, 515 N. Belair Rd., (at Washington Rd.) at 11 a.m. on February 2, 2019 and officiated by Pastor Philip Hedgecoth. Visitation with the family is at 10 a.m. in the Church’s Sanctuary, immediately preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heartland Hospice Care, 153 Davis Road, Augusta, GA 30907 or The First Baptist Church of Evans
