Patricia Drown Matson
March 24, 1934 - April 25, 2019
Patricia Drown Matson, age 85, of Augusta, Georgia entered into rest on Thursday, April 25, 2019.
Patricia was born Patricia Drown on a small family farm in north central Ohio in March 1934. Pat was the youngest of five children, all of them pulling their weight working the farm. While attending the local school in Green Springs, Ohio, she met her future husband, Roger Matson in 1947. They were married on June 20, 1953, the year after graduation, and were blessed with four sons over the following twelve years: Terry, Garry, Dean and Chris.
The family moved to suburban Toledo, Ohio in 1968 where the boys all attended and graduated high school. Mr. Matson was an avid sports fan and the couple enjoyed following their sons participation in sports, mainly football and baseball. Nearly every year while the boys were growing up the family vacationed in northern Ontario, Canada. Roger and Pat often went fishing together as they continued to do well into their golden years. The couple owned a boat, which allowed them to enjoy the water not only on their trips to Canada, but summertime excursions on Lake Erie and its popular islands as well.
Pat was a homemaker nearly her entire life and enjoyed it thoroughly. She loved to cook, bake and sew, often making not only some of her own clothes, but some for Roger and the boys too. For a number of years, she was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and crocheting in her spare time. Christmastime was a special time for Pat since nothing made her happier than having the family all together. She labored for hours making Christmas cookies and candies for everyone. Believe me, they were among the best!
In 1983 Pat and Roger moved to Georgia where they would live the next thirty-plus years. Most of that time was spent in the Peachtree City area where her son Chris still lives. Terry and his family reside in Alabama and Garry lives in South Florida. Dean and his family live here in Augusta not far away. Pat has seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Her beloved husband, Roger passed away in December 2016 after 63 years of marriage.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1pm on Monday, June 24, 2019 at the Cascade Cemetery in Cloverdale, Ohio. Online condolences may be expressed at www.arlingtonfuneral.com Arlington Burial & Cremation, 1220 George C. Wilson Drive Suite C, Augusta, GA 30909. (762) 994-0311
