November 30, 1948 - May 2, 2020
Linda L. Franklin departed this life May 2, 2020 after a brave battle with cancer. She was born to Charles and Martha Franklin in 1948 and lived all over the world as her father’s Military career took him to postings in and out of country. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from Florida Southern College, worked briefly as a teacher and was commissioned as an Army officer from 1974 to 1983. In her last assignment Captain Franklin was the Deputy Director of a think tank group, Delta Force, at the US Army War College. She left the Army and attained her Master’s in Library Science and Information Services in 1984 from San Jose State University. She worked at the Pentagon as a Program and Budget Analyst from 1984 to 1990 when she moved to Florida to be closer to her aging parents. She worked for a couple years at Polk Community College but resigned her job to become a full time caregiver for her mother who was seriously ill. After her mother’s passing in 1999 she returned to the work world as a librarian for the City of Lakeland Public Library while continuing to care for her aging father. After her father’s passing she retired and moved to Crawfordville GA in 2010. Although retired she continued her commitment to public service volunteering for several organizations in the community, writing grants that brought in much needed funds, and serving on the City Council for the last four years. Linda always believed that each of us has a responsibility to make a positive difference in the world. She lived that belief and leaves a legacy of contribution and public service. She was preceded in death by her mother, brother (Lance) and father. She leaves behind a heartbroken circle of friends and colleagues not only here in Crawfordville but across the country who will miss her keen mind, willingness to help, astute problem solving ability and wry sense of humor.
“And when our work is done, Our course on earth is run, May it be said, ‘Well done; Be thou at peace’."
